TIMOTHY HASKELL ACCLAIMED CREATOR OF NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COME TRUE NEW YORK’S MOST HORRIFYING HAUNTED HOUSE TO APPEAR ON NBC’S “THE TODAY SHOW” HALLOWEEN 2008 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31
Timothy Haskell, creator of the wildly popular Halloween spectacular NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COME TRUE, will appear on NBC’s The Today Show on Halloween (this Friday, October 31) during the 10:00am hour. During this appearance, Haskell, known for his sharp humor, will teach the millions of viewers how to create simple, yet affective and fun, Halloween tricks and treats in their very own home.
Named “King of Horror” by ABC World News Tonight, Haskell has received international acclaim for his approach to terror, attracting thrill-seekers from all over the world to experience his unique brand of fright. NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COME TRUE is currently packing them in at CSV Cultural Arts Center (107 Suffolk Street at Rivington Street) and runs through November 8. 2008 marks NIGHTMARE’s celebratory fifth anniversary in NYC, and its inaugural year in Miami Beach, FL. For tickets and more information, please visit NightmareNewYork.com.
Presented by Psycho Clan (Executive Director, Chip Meyrelles), this year’s version of NIGHTMARE has received the best reviews yet! Time Out New York screams, “Sick! Deliciously sick!” Michael Musto in the Village Voice shrieks, “A brilliantly conceived spook house!" And The New York Press cries, “The largest haunted house in the entire country, outfitted with more costumed actors than animatronics, is bigger and scarier!”
For its 5th anniversary, Psycho Clan decided that NIGHTMARE should actually be about nightmares so, as in years past, it conducted an online poll about its audience’s recurring bad dreams—and thousands responded! The creative team then selected the most twisted, demented responses, added some iconic recurring nightmares, and created a house that will force audiences to experience awake what few can handle asleep. With more special effects, more elaborate sets, and more evil baddies waiting to get you then ever before, NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COME TRUE will bring your worst night terrors to screaming life.
NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COMES TRUE is a classic walk-through haunted house that features downtown fearmeister Timothy Haskell’s trademark theatricality. In celebration of its fifth year at the same venue, a SECOND terrifying haunted attraction has been created—NIGHTMARE LEGENDS. Featuring the new Halloween legend SAW V Room, this is a classic haunted house from back-in-the-day, with a carnie feel and a cast of legendary horror characters: Blob, Zombie, Vampire, Witch, Frankenstein, Mummy and, of course, a maniac with a chainsaw!
NIGHTMARE: BAD DREAMS COME TRUE features the work of New York’s most talented young visual artists and designers including: Paul Smithyman (production designer), Aaron Haskell and Justin Haskell (art directors), Wendy Yang (costumes), David Andora (special effects), Garin Marschall (lights), Eric Shim (sound) and will be produced by David Solomon Rodriguez.
Timothy Haskell (Creator/Director) recently directed the Off-Broadway hits Stitching, The Jaded Assassin, Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy starring Corey Feldman at the Classic Stage Company and the Paris Hilton spoof, I Love Paris by Doug Fields. Haskell is perhaps best known for creating and directing the 2002 cult hit Road House: The Stage Play at the Barrow Street Theatre.
Psycho Clan (Executive Director, Chip Meyrelles) is a division of Art Meets Commerce LLC, an entertainment company dedicated to special events, theatrical productions and new media applications. Its principals are Mr. Meyrelles, Ken Greiner, Timothy Haskell, Jim Glaub, Laurie Connor and Amanda Pekoe. Producing credits include Bug, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Orson’s Shadow, The Jaded Assassin, Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy, I Love Paris and Magic Hands Freddy. New Media advertising/marketing clients include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Xanadu, Fela!, Almost an Evening and The Seagull. To learn more, visit ArtMeetsCommerce.net.
NIGHTMARE fans can go to both haunted houses for one low price of $30 throughout the run! Tickets are $30 if purchased at the door. There will also be a limited number of line-busting VIP tickets (no-wait entry into both attractions and a gift bag) available for $60. To purchase tickets, and for more information, please visit NightmareNewYork.com or call 212.352.3101. (For groups and parties call 888-491-7469 or visit BroadwayGroups.com.) CSV Cultural Center is located at 107 Suffolk Street between Delancey and Rivington streets.
The Masks Have Spoken. Barack Obama will be 44th President according to BuyCostumes.com, the world's largest Internet based retailer of costumes and party supplies
Ladies and Gentleman, the results are in. BuyCostumes.com announces that according to their 2008 Official Presidential Mask Poll, the 44th President of The United States of America will be Mr. Barack Obama ( http://www.buycostumes.com/Barack-Obama-Paper-Mask/32310/ProductDetail.aspx ). Some may scoff at the notion that masks have any kind of say in anything at all, but since the year 2000, BuyCostumes.com masks have been right every time. The latest count indicates an Obama lead over McCain of 10 points; 55% to 45%.
Can't buy your candidate into office? Think again. The phrase, "Vote early, vote often," attributed to BuyCostumes.com ( http://www.buycostumes.com ) Chief Operating Officer, Dan Haight, has had an impact, and at $0.99 each, the "votes (mask purchases)" have been coming in by the thousands since June 3rd of this year. It should also be noted that BuyCostumes.com successfully predicted that Obama would win in the primaries; a very slight margin of only 1%, notwithstanding. To get an accurate read, this year BuyCostumes.com produced its own paper masks of each candidate and their running mates selling for $.99 each. "These masks are a fun and inexpensive way for supporters of all kinds to participate in the process," commented BuyCostumes.com CEO, Jalem Getz.
What is the explanation for the masks' uncanny ability to predict the winners? Scientifically speaking, the jury is still out on this one. BuyCostumes.com has been running their own numbers since 2000, and additionally has found that data going back to 1980 on mask sales has demonstrated successful predictions of the presidential winners in each election. In any case, we can surely predict that BuyCostumes.com will take great pride in the correct prediction of yet another great moment in history. Sue Davis and her husband, Rick are two of the three founders of the Darkride and Funhouse Enthusiasts (DAFE), an organization devoted to the appreciation of “dark attractions,” and "home haunters" so this came as no surprise to those that know the couple. Sue said “After seeing some of the fun things that couples have done for their weddings, I wished that Rick and I would have thought of it. Of course we couldn’t go back in time, but we could do something special and unusual for our twentieth anniversary.”
Since weddings on rollercoasters have become rather old-hat, Sue and Rick decided that they should renew their vows at one of their favorite “darkrides” the Haunted Mansion at Knoebels Amusement Resort.
They didn’t have to search far for a minister willing to do it, their friend and fellow amusement park enthusiast, the Reverend Cliff Herring had married more than 50 couples on rollercoasters. A haunted house wedding however, was something new so he jumped at the chance to preside.
The couple and their entourage dressed befitting their surroundings during the park’s Halloween event, Phoenix Phall Phunfest, October 4th. Sue was in a gothic vampire dress, Rick was costumed as a Victorian undertaker and the wedding party was outfitted as vampires.
Hundreds of park guests lined the midway to watch the ceremony.
Following the ceremony the wedding party boarded ride cars for a trip in the dark through the amusement ride before being whisked away in their “limousine”, a classic 1970 Cadillac hearse.
Rick remarked, “The secret to a long marriage is never taking yourselves too seriously; you have to keep things interesting and do the unexpected once in a while.”
